Mahjong Ways RTP is 96.92%, while Mahjong Ways 2 RTP is 96.95%, but neither figure predicts a session’s result. Mahjong Ways RTP: the two game versions compared

The published RTP is 96.92% for Mahjong Ways and 96.95% for Mahjong Ways 2. These are theoretical return figures for the respective game versions, not a promise about what a player will receive in any particular session. PG Soft’s game information separates each total into the main game and the free spins feature:

Game Main game RTP Free spins RTP Total RTP
Mahjong Ways 68.89% 28.03% 96.92%
Mahjong Ways 2 70.39% 26.56% 96.95%

The figures describe the designed theoretical contribution of each part of the game. They do not mean that a specific player will get back the stated share, nor that free spins will occur within a particular number of rounds. For a closer look at the sequel’s design, see the Mahjong Ways 2 review.

What does RTP mean over the long term?

RTP, or return to player, is a theoretical percentage calculated across a very large number of game rounds. In simplified terms, a 96.92% RTP corresponds to a 3.08% house edge; a 96.95% RTP corresponds to a 3.05% house edge. The house edge is the difference between 100% and the stated RTP, viewed over the long term. It is not a fee taken from each spin or a measure of what an individual session will return.

Short sessions can differ substantially from the theoretical percentage. Results are generated independently, so an unusually high or low session does not change the published RTP or predict the next round. The figures also apply to the stated game versions; they should not be treated as a live reading of recent results.

Mahjong Ways 2 RTP and third-party live figures

The official RTP figures are fixed theoretical values for these game versions. A percentage that changes hourly on a third-party page is not an official PG Soft live RTP reading. Official PG Soft game information does not identify these changing figures as an in-game statistic, and their appearance on a website does not indicate that PG Soft endorses or verifies them. PG Soft lists both games in its official information. Its public game information page is a reference for the series. In the public demo, the interface displays the game’s ways count above the reels. That display is separate from RTP: ways count describes available winning combinations, while RTP is a long-term theoretical return measure.

For both titles, the game information identifies Gaming Associates as the tester. This does not make third-party live RTP percentages official, and it does not mean that any individual outcome can be predicted. The official demo can be explored through the site’s Mahjong Ways demo page.

Volatility and hit rates

Both games have medium session volatility in their published specifications. Volatility describes how results may be distributed across play; it is not a guarantee of steady wins or a prediction of the size or timing of a future result. A medium rating should not be read as meaning that outcomes will arrive at regular intervals.

The published hit rates are:

Game Overall hit rate Main game Free spins feature
Mahjong Ways 28.54% 28.05% 0.49%
Mahjong Ways 2 29.90% 29.44% 0.46%

A hit rate is a frequency measure in the game information, not an RTP figure. It does not say how large a win will be, and it does not mean that a win is due after a set number of non-winning spins. The feature portion of the table is distinct from the overall figure: it is not a promise that free spins will be triggered during a particular session. The how to play guide explains the basic round sequence, while the free spins and Scatter guide covers the feature triggers.

Big Win, Mega Win and Super Mega Win frequencies

PG Soft also provides frequencies for three named win categories. The values below are expressed as one occurrence per stated number of spins in the game information; they are not schedules or guarantees.

Game Big Win Mega Win Super Mega Win
Mahjong Ways 1/287 1/970 1/1,222
Mahjong Ways 2 1/294 1/1,201 1/2,122

For Mahjong Ways, Big Win means x20 to x35 of the bet, Mega Win x35 to x50, and Super Mega Win x50 and above. These category thresholds and frequency estimates do not predict when a result will happen. They also do not alter the independent nature of each spin.

Mahjong Ways max win: advertised value and simulation

The advertised maximum win is 25,000x the bet for Mahjong Ways and 100,000x the bet for Mahjong Ways 2. These are advertised values, not results that can be expected or targets that a player can reliably reach. In one billion simulated spins, the maximum exposure observed was 2,893x for Mahjong Ways and 1,708x for Mahjong Ways 2.

Game Advertised max win Max exposure observed in 1 billion simulated spins
Mahjong Ways 25,000x the bet 2,893x
Mahjong Ways 2 100,000x the bet 1,708x

The two columns answer different questions. The advertised maximum is the stated top win value; simulated max exposure is the largest result observed in that particular set of one billion simulated spins. A simulation result is not a revised advertised maximum and does not establish that a larger outcome is impossible. Conversely, the advertised value is not evidence that it will occur in ordinary play.

The games use cascading wins, where winning symbols are removed and new symbols fall into place for further checks within the same spin. Multipliers rise through the cascade rounds, and free spins use a higher multiplier ladder. These mechanics can affect individual outcomes, but they do not make the max win or RTP predictable. See the Mahjong Ways 2 review for the sequel’s feature details.

India: real-money play and the free demo

For India, the legal context matters. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 applies across India, including to services operated from outside the country. It prohibits offering, advertising and promoting online money games, whether based on chance, skill or a mix, and bars banks and payment systems from processing transactions for them. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 came into force on 1 May 2026; an authority determines whether a game is an online money game. Under this framework, playing Mahjong Ways for real money is an online money game.

The public demo uses virtual credits and involves no money. This is different from real-money play on a third-party platform. The demo runs as an HTML5 game in a browser or within a gaming platform; PG Soft does not provide an official standalone Mahjong Ways APK. For the site’s summary of the rules, see Mahjong Ways and India’s legal position. This information is explanatory and does not replace official legal guidance.

Results cannot be forecast using supposed patterns, predictors or hacks. Each spin is generated independently by a random number generator.
